The Apothecary Fitness Experience
Apothecary Fitness is an independently owned, 24-hour gym in the heart of downtown Danville, Indiana.
Set inside a distinctive two-story space, the gym combines the character of its downtown setting with a thoughtfully selected collection of modern training equipment and elevated member amenities. The strength floor features Nautilus equipment, selectorized machines, free weights, dumbbells, cable stations, and dedicated functional training space, complemented by cardio equipment including treadmills and StairMasters.
But the vision extends beyond the workout itself.
Members have 24/7 access, allowing training to fit around their lives rather than the other way around. A traditional sauna offers a place to recover and unwind after training, while towel service and carefully considered amenities add a level of hospitality rarely associated with a neighborhood gym.
Every part of Apothecary Fitness has been intentionally chosen, from the equipment and layout to the atmosphere, finishes, and member experience. The goal is to provide the quality and amenities of a premium fitness club while maintaining the personality, independence, and sense of community of a locally owned business.
There is no single type of person Apothecary Fitness was built for. It's a place for experienced lifters and lifelong athletes, for people walking into a gym for the first time, and for those returning after years away.
Come as you are. Train on your terms. And make the space your own.
The Story Behind Apothecary Fitness
For Tom and Therese, Apothecary Fitness grew from a simple idea: create the kind of gym they wished existed in their own community.
Tom and Therese moved to Danville a decade ago, and along with their children, have made their home here ever since. Over the years, Danville has become more than just where they live. It is the community where they are raising their family, building their businesses, and putting down roots. Opening Apothecary Fitness felt like an opportunity to create something meaningful for the town they call home.
Tom Owens has spent more than 20 years in law enforcement and has always valued strength, discipline, and staying active. After moving to Danville, he found himself missing the kind of gym he truly enjoyed spending time in. During COVID, Tom and Therese built an extensive home gym, investing in quality equipment and creating a space where training became part of their everyday lives. Eventually, the thought became hard to ignore: why not create that same experience for their community?
Therese's connection to fitness took a different path. A lifelong athlete, she grew up playing sports and went on to play collegiate volleyball, along with sailing and other athletic pursuits. After college, years of competitive athletics caught up with her. Burned out, she stepped away from serious training for nearly a decade.
In 2015, she found her way back to lifting. She became a personal training client at Exact Fitness in Brownsburg, which completely reignited her love for strength training and reminded her how much the right environment can change the way you feel about going to the gym.
That experience became an important part of the philosophy behind Apothecary Fitness.
Why “Apothecary”?
The name is a nod to an old idea with a modern meaning: Movement is Medicine.
Historically, an apothecary was a place people went in search of remedies and things that helped them feel better. Our version looks a little different. Instead of bottles and tinctures, you'll find barbells, dumbbells, treadmills, weight machines, and a sauna.
We believe movement can be one of the most powerful things we do for ourselves. Strength training, cardiovascular exercise, recovery, and simply staying active can affect far more than how we look. They can help us feel stronger, more capable, more confident, and better prepared for everyday life.
